The University of Córdoba (UCO) and the Army have presented the new Master of Permanent Training in Logistics Management 4.0a UCO-specific degree that aims to train civilian and military personnel to work in the Army Logistics Base (BLET) and in the companies and industries that will be established around it.

The new title was presented this week by the rector of the UCO, Manuel Torralbo Rodríguezand the head of the Army Logistics Support Command, Lieutenant General Fernando García and García de las Hijas. Torralbo explained that with the launch of this master’s degree the objective of presenting this complementary training as one of the actions with which the UCO committed to the BLET is fulfilled.

“We all know that the Logistics Base project in Córdoba is going to bring a series of opportunities, not only in the military field, but also in industry and the supply of all types of materials, and the UCO, since the BLET arrived, its objective was to design a Master of Logistics that will be useful for both the civil and military industries.” Thus, it has defined the new master’s degree as “a dual training with a modern, integrative and highly technological approach.”

For his part, Fernando García y García de las Hijas has reviewed the history of collaboration between the Army and “our reference university, which is the University of Córdoba”, which dates back to 2012. From internship programs to training courses, Manpredic -the research and technological development project in the field of predictive maintenance of land platforms- or the joint doctoral program for officers of the Army Corps of Engineers, among others.

“We want to frame this master’s degree in what we call the logistics transformation of the Army, which is the vanguard of the modernization of the Army. And there we have a common banner with the University of Córdoba, of the Army, which is the Logistics Base,” he said. “And today is one more step in that digital talent, with a master’s degree that will be a before and after. That is why I want to express my satisfaction and ambition, because we do not want to stop there, but continue to advance in a constructive model towards more effective, more efficient and much more agile logistics with the help and with the great alliance of the University of Córdoba.”

Structure and contents of the master’s degree

The master’s directors, the professors Pablo Romero Carrillo and Florentino Santos Porrashave outlined the structure of this master’s degree, which is an initiative of the Vice-rectorate for Continuing Training, Employability and Entrepreneurship of the University of Córdoba, through its Center for Own Teaching and Continuing Training (Ucontinues). The master’s degree will be taught by a wide range of teachers who are experts in logistics and warehouse management, from different professional fields (Junta de Andalucía, Army, professionals from companies in the logistics-industrial sector and the University of Córdoba). The master’s academic program is structured into four modules: Planning, control and administrative procedures, Storage and distribution management, Logistics 4.0 (in which students will acquire knowledge and skills in artificial intelligence, Big Data and Business Intelligence; and Industrial and defense logistics, where Army commanders will detail what the logistics required by the future logistics base will be like.

In addition to the classes, the directors of the master’s degree have planned several conferences given by experts in the field, which will deal with topics of special interest such as rail logistics, air logistics, pharmaceutical logistics or the use of robotics in logistics activities. In collaboration with other institutions, additional activities are being prepared in which managers from world-class logistics companies will participate.

For this first edition, they have offered 20 seats. Those interested in taking the master’s degree must pre-register before June 30 on the UCO website.
