After the forced displacement of which the Wiwa communities settled in Tamarrazón, Juan y Medio, El Limón, Naranjal and Cantedero, in the rural area of ​​Riohacha, were victims, due to clashes between groups outside the law such as ‘Los Pachencas’ and the ‘ Clan del Golfo’, the indigenous people are preparing to return to their territories.

For the above, a verification table was carried out aimed at guaranteeing the safe return to said communities.

The National Police, the National Army, the Secretary of the District Government, the Ombudsman’s Office, and representatives of the Wiwa indigenous community participated in the meeting held in Riohacha; with the primary objective of reaffirming the security conditions necessary for the prompt return of these communities to their places of origin.

The commitment of the authorities to protect and guarantee the Human Rights of the indigenous population was highlighted so that they can live and develop according to their customs and traditions.

For its part, the public force highlighted its willingness to collaborate closely with indigenous communities, providing them with the necessary support and establishing permanent communication mechanisms.

Likewise, the Ombudsman’s Office reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring respect and protection of fundamental rights.
