A new femicide shakes the province of Córdoba: a woman was beaten to death with a knife in an apartment in the General Paz neighborhood of the Capital. Her partner, a 39-year-old man, was detained by the Police and in the next few hours he will be charged with homicide classified by a family violence prosecutor’s office, official sources confided to The voice.
With this new drama, there are now at least four direct femicides committed so far in 2024 in the province of Córdoba, according to the newspaper’s own records. In addition, there was a binding femicide (a child)
Regarding the last case, which is under investigation, it happened in an apartment located on the first floor at 1061 Catamarca Street in the General Paz neighborhood, in the provincial capital.
The victim was identified as Verónica Heredia, who was 34 years old.
It was just after noon this Sunday, when police personnel arrived at the scene after a warning call made by a man to the emergency line.
The call reported a fight between a couple, shouting and hitting.
Official sources indicated that, a few moments later, patrol cars arrived and some police officers, after entering the building, went up to the first floor.
Thus, they were attended to by a resident of the complex, who reported that knocks and screams had been heard from housing unit 1° A.
The officers began to knock on the door of the apartment in question, while identifying themselves as police officers.
A man opened the door for them. He looked upset. He let the uniformed officers pass and told them where his partner was. The woman was lying in the room. She was covered with a diver.
There were three knives on the floor.
The victim had a cut wound to the neck and bruises. She didn’t react.
Quickly, the police gave the alert and summoned an emergency medical team. When the ambulance finally arrived, everything was commotion in the building. There were several police officers already present.
The woman was already dead.
During all this, the man would have tried to inflict some cuts on himself, for which he was treated.
Official sources indicated that it is Felipe Herrera, 39 years old and of Chilean nationality.
The man was taken to the Emergency Hospital, where he was treated. Spokespersons in the case indicated that he was detained by court order. His indictment is expected.
Open investigation
According to reports, the man made statements to some police officers. The suspect reportedly said he had been with his partner drinking alcohol and taking pills since Saturday night.
The individual would have admitted that he had a violent fight with the woman and that he hit her and attacked her with a knife.
“The guy made those demonstrations. Anyway, there he is. Here we have a femicide and an attack that was intentional. We must investigate and determine how it happened. The subject was detained and will be charged by the prosecutor’s office,” said a source in the case.
By court order, the apartment was sealed off for various expert reports to be carried out by Judicial Police personnel. Meanwhile, investigative bodies from the Homicide Department of the provincial Police began a series of investigations to obtain data and details about what happened.

It is not clear if there were previous complaints of acts of gender violence.
