Authorities confirm that this Sunday, June 16, the father of the vice president, Francia Márquez, was the victim of an attack in the town of Robles, rural area of Jamundí.
According to the versions, the events occurred around 3:00 pm, when Sigifredo Márquez was traveling with a minor in a vehicle on Timba Road, which was hit with a firearm four times. “The father of the political leader and the minor are out of danger.”
According to several witnesses from the Timba community, the Vice President’s father was traveling with a security detail that traveled in two armored Presidency trucks. While traveling along the road, the vehicles were attacked with an explosive and then with gunshots coming from the mountain.
“The first version that circulated was that the attack was against Francia Márquez, because she usually passes through here with her security scheme,” a social leader told Week.
Immediately she became aware of what happened to her father, Vice President Francia Márquez, through her X account, asked the Prosecutor’s Office to open the investigation to clarify what happened.
Both Francia Márquez’s father and the minor who accompanied him were taken to the Robles Police substation, from where they will be transferred to Bogotá.
According to the Military Forces, two helicopters are already in the area to airlift Don Sigifredo and the minor.
In the rural area of Jamundí, investigations are underway and law enforcement is deployed in the area to locate those responsible for the attack.
The preliminary report from the Cali Police confirmed that the vehicle in which the father of the vice president of Colombia was traveling “was hit on at least four occasions. “The victim of this new attack in Cali was accompanied by a minor.”
Reactions to the attack
One of the first to react to this fact was the Colombian ambassador to the United Kingdom, Roy Barreras, who in his X profile sent a message of strength to the official, in the face of this case that caused panic within his family. ““Total solidarity with the family of the vice president @FranciaMarquezM and capture of those responsible”Barreras stated with a publication on his X account.
Likewise, President Gustavo Petro on his X account sent a message of solidarity to the Márquez family and asked the authorities to carry out the relevant investigations.
