In a blow to drug trafficking, units of the National Gendarmerie carried out a successful operation in the road corridors of Mendoza, San Juan and San Luis, resulting in the seizure of more than 4 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside wireless speakers. The intervention took place during routine security and crime and infraction prevention checks on National Routes No. 40, 7 and 142.
The discovery occurred specifically at kilometer 3379 of National Route No. 40, near San Carlos, San Juan province. During the inspection of a tourist bus from Orán, Salta, with its final destination in Mendoza, Gendarmerie agents detected inconsistencies in four wireless speakers carried by a passenger. In the presence of witnesses, the sound equipment was dismantled, revealing rectangular packages containing a total of 4 kilos and 157 grams of cocaine.
The joint operation involved Squadron 64 “Mendoza”, Core Squadron “San Juan”, and the Road Safety Section “La Punta”, with collaboration from the Mendoza Police. After the discovery, the Federal Court No. 2 of San Juan, through its Criminal Secretariat No. 5, ordered the seizure of the drugs, the arrest of the responsible citizen and the seizure of relevant elements for the case, framed in alleged violation of Law 23,737 on Narcotic Drugs.
