”The forecast for July and August is quite serious for our region”: Governor Matiz

At the Governors’ Summit held in Montería, one of the topics on the agenda was the analysis of the outlook for the country regarding the arrival of the La Niña phenomenon and the hurricane season. Governor Adriana Magali Matiz reiterated the technical, administrative and financial disposition to face the rains in Tolima.

Governor Adriana Magali Matiz shared the general concern for the leaders of the Andean region, regarding the forecasts about the arrival of the La Niña phenomenon, which will intensely affect the departments of this part of the country, between the months of July and August. .

“The forecasts that were presented to us at the Governors’ Summit in Montería indicate that the rains will be of equal or greater intensity than those that occurred in 2010 and the forecasts suggest that they will extend until the beginning of 2025,” stated Matiz.

Taking into account the background and effects that occurred in 2010, the priority route of critical points and sites in the Department where the greatest effects occur will be established and a contingency plan will be developed, alerts declared and technical, administrative and logistical support projected to make against the rains.

Before the end of June, a Departmental Risk Management Council will be convened to socialize the projections of the La Niña phenomenon and activate the institutional response from the Government of Tolima for this season.
