Those who visited Säo Paulo, Brazil, say that the traffic there is chaotic. It is difficult to imagine how in the midst of chaos you can enjoy all the qualities that a Ford Mustang has to offer, but it took just over 400 kilometers to understand that the new muscle car that arrives in the region It is a car for every day and contexts.
Ford presented in Brazil the seventh generation of the Mustang, a model that not only turns 60 but is also the only reference in its category that is still in global production. For it, THE NATION traveled to the chaotic Brazilian city and came into contact with the Performance GT version of the Mustang.
Naturally, the first thing generated impact was its exterior. Built on the same platform as the previous generation, the most significant changes are the more stylized and modern headlights; more marked lines on the grill and hood and a rear spoiler, which in Argentina would arrive as an optional accessory. In short, despite some aesthetic modifications to the design and profile, It still has the same Mustang essence.
Inside, however, the accent was placed. While several Mustangs were already making the noise of the V8 engine resonate, there was time to play with the configurations of the 12.4″ multimedia screen attached to the 13.2″ dashboardwhich made up a large technological panel with several things to look at.
From there, it is possible to set the driving mode, the exhaust noise, the air conditioning and even the instruments. A detail that does not escape the nostalgic is the possibility of configuring the board to emulate the aesthetics of the 1967 Mustang Classic or late 80’s Fox Body.
In addition, the information on the screen allows you to know in real time the status of many of the car’s components: from the temperature of the engine, oil and brakes to the pressure of each tire.
As for space, the dimensions remain practically the same, but with finishes that denote a leap in quality in the materials of the seats, steering wheel and cabin. Needless to say, the rear seats are symbolic, especially when the driver is tall and needs to retract his seat as much as possible.
This Mustang also debuts the fourth generation of the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 engine, the most powerful equipped in one of these cars. According to what the automaker officially reports, lighter materials and new injection, cooling and lubrication systems were incorporated. It delivers 488 HP of power at 7520 rpm and 564 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm.
The sound and power of the V8 were present throughout the journey. After inspecting it inside and out, THE NATION He had the opportunity to drive 180 kilometers from the building where the official presentation was made to the Autódromo Velo Cittá, on the outskirts of the city.
The planets aligned and the traffic accompanied: only a few sections were blocked, and then received the Mustang caravan with flowing highways, landscapes to remember and a route that allowed exploration the virtues of driving assistance systems, the driving position and their different modes (the “normal” and “sporty” were tested).
The closing of the day took place at the racetrack, where some of the car’s freedoms that had not been taken advantage of in transit were tested on the track. In short, this new Mustang revalidated his story: It is a powerful model designed for speed, but it is also a great alternative for driving under normal conditions.
The main person responsible for this is their Magneride shock absorbers, that vary their hardness and adapt in a matter of seconds to the imperfections of the road. Thus, it becomes almost imperceptible to go over potholes, pits and other elements. The ride is quite comfortable and although the steering is not soft, it is not heavy or uncomfortable either.
The ten speed automatic transmission responded at all times, but for those interested there are also shift paddles on the steering wheel. However, for the moment It will only be sold in an automatic version.
Another interesting point of the new Mustang is its front and rear Brembo brakes and an electronic drift system. Next to the front seat, there is a handbrake lever that does not activate any mechanical system but rather a technological device that blocks the rear wheels and assists in skidding more easily.
