Several dozen friends gathered at the Cuban embassy in this capital to commemorate more than three decades of accompanying the nearby island in its fight against the longest economic, commercial and financial blockade in history imposed by the United States.

In a message to solidarity comrades, who see in Cuba an example of resistance and social justice, the president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), Fernando González, recalled that the constitution of the Campaign took place in a date of great importance for your country.

He highlighted that it arose on June 14, the same day as the birth of two great men united by history: Major General of the Liberation Army Antonio Maceo (1845-1896) and the Argentine-Cuban revolutionary Ernesto “Che” Guevara (1928). -1967).

González highlighted that among its founding members were long-time friends such as the legendary revolutionary Iván Rodríguez, who permanently demanded the end of the United States blockade against the Caribbean nation, along with other fellow militants.

For his part, the Campaign coordinator, Roberto Payano, reiterated that “Cuba has a team of Dominican friends for whatever it takes,” and on behalf of his colleagues he demanded an end to Washington’s hostile policy towards Havana and that that country be removed from the unilateral list of nation sponsors of terrorism.

A special moment was the intervention of the Commander of the Rebel Army and Dominican National Hero, the Cuban Delio Gómez Ochoa, the only survivor of the expeditions of June 14 and 20, 1959, a patriotic action to free the Dominican Republic from the Trujillo dictatorship.

Ochoa maintained that the terror implemented by Rafael Leónidas Trujillo (1930-1961) reaffirmed the need to deepen the changes in this country in the face of events such as the murder of the Mirabal sisters, on November 25, 1960.

Also speaking on the occasion was the Cuban journalist Wilmer Rodríguez, author of the book The Luck of Surviving, Conversations with Commander Delio Gómez Ochoa, a volume resulting from several interviews with the revolutionary and which was presented last week at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo. in the presence of its protagonist.

There were several friends from Cuba who spoke this afternoon about solidarity.

Ambassador Ángel Arzuaga affirmed that Cuba is the island of friendship, peace and integration.
