Temuco, June 13, 2024.

At the Ñielol Sports Field in the city of Temuco, the Minister of Sports, Jaime Pizarro Herrera, held the regional launch of the National Sports Games that will be held between September 22 and October 5 of this year in the cities of Pucón , Villarrica, Padre Las Casas and Temuco, in the La Araucanía Region.

In the instance, the highest authority of Chilean sports indicated that “for our Ministry and for the Government in general, it is a priority to carry out activities that promote physical activity in the different regions of the country. As I mentioned, these Games are one of the most important at the national level and, therefore, we hope that it will have a great impact on the region. “We have just seen the impact generated by the organization of events with the Santiago 2023 Pan American and Parapan American Games, manifested in the support for athletes, attendance and participation in competitions that, without a doubt, are an incentive for the new generations.”

Present at the event were the national director of the National Sports Institute (IND), Israel Castro López, the president of the Chilean Olympic Committee (COCh) Miguel Ángel, Mujica, the president of the Chilean Paralympic Committee (Copachi), Sebastián Villavicencio, in addition to the local political authorities: the regional governor, Luciano Rivas, and the mayors of the cities of Temuco, Roberto Neira, of Villarrica, Javier Montilla, the mayor of Pucón, Carlos Barra, and the mayor of Padre Las Casas, Mario González .

On the occasion, the Minister of Sports detailed aspects of participation and disciplines that will be present in the National Sports Games: “This is one of the main sports festivals in Chile, which allows us to see the best athletes in the country on the field. of the different disciplines. This year, for the La Araucanía Region, approximately 3 thousand athletes from the 16 regions of the country are expected to participate. In total there will be 22 disciplines that we can enjoy in the National and Para National Sports Games. In conventional competitions there are 16: Athletics, handball, 3×3 basketball, 5×5 basketball, BMX cycling, road cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, judo, karate, weightlifting, swimming, rugby, taekwondo, tennis, table tennis and floor volleyball,” said Jaime Pizarro.

Ñielol Sports Field witnessed sports demonstrations carried out by local federations, where the karate exhibition stood out, with samples of the discipline, and also weight lifting.

During the visit to the region, Minister Pizarro also met with the Regional Council of La Araucanía, who approved on Wednesday a budget of $1,000 million to support the holding of the National Sports Games. The highest sports authority in the country also visited the commune of Loncoche in the Province of Cautín, where he participated together with the mayor and local authorities in the ceremony to install the first stone of the future Choose Living Healthy Sports Center.
