The Minister of Health, Lorena Cofré, arrived at the Puerto de Valparaíso station, together with the manager of EFE Valparaíso, Miguel Saavedra, to provide some recommendations to the users of this means of transport, which reaches twelve thousand people daily.

The Valparaíso Health Seremi, Lorena Cofré Aravenamaintained that “It is important to prevent risk situations and infections by wearing a mask. The recommendation that we are making, together with the General Manager of EFE Valparaíso, is to call on users to wear a mask inside the train.”

The health authority added: “We continue with the vaccination campaign against Influenza, so we invite people to check the mobile vaccination points and also encourage the vaccination of pregnant people and people over 60 years of age, who have had a hard time getting them to go to get vaccinated.”

For his part, the general manager of EFE Valparaíso, Miguel Saavedra Lavanalpointed out that “We join this vaccination campaign that in different stations of the Limache-Puerto service in EFE Valparaíso, in the stations of Puerto, Viña del Mar, Quilpué, Villa Alemana, Limache, we will have different vaccination points available. The call is for you to pay attention to EFE’s social networks, to the information to see where exactly you can acquire this vaccination and thereby protect your health.”

To date, 80% of the target population has been immunized against Influenza. Vaccination points can be reviewed at www.mevacuno.gob.cl.

Other precautionary measures, in addition to the recommendation to use a mask, especially in the event of respiratory symptoms, are frequent hand washing with soap and water, covering the nose and mouth with the forearm when coughing and sneezing; and ventilate closed spaces.

Recommendations for low temperatures

After the frontal system that affected the region last week and before the announcement of new rainfall, the health authority emphasized that “In instances where the temperature decreases, it is important to cover the nose and mouth to improve breathing and avoid contagion. In addition to that, it is also important to prevent sudden changes in temperature, constantly ventilate the home and avoid closed spaces.”
