In an exciting final of the XXXI National Under-20 Men’s Futsal Departmental Team Tournament, Santa Cruz was crowned champion after beating Chuquisaca 2-1 on Saturday in Trinidad, Beni. Overcoming a challenging start, the Santa Cruz team came back to triumph and take home the title.
The tournament began on Wednesday with the participation of eight teams divided into two groups. Group A included Beni, Pando, Chuquisaca and Cochabamba, while in group B Santa Cruz, Tarija, La Paz and Potosí competed. After a group stage where each team faced its group rivals, the top two of each advanced to the semifinals.
Despite an unfavorable start with a defeat against Potosí (3-2), the Santa Cruz team recovered forcefully against La Paz (8-0) and Tarija (5-2). These results allowed them to qualify for the semifinals with 6 points, being second in their group. On the other hand, Chuquisaca also secured its place in the semifinals after finishing second with the same points in group A.
In the semifinals, Santa Cruz demonstrated its strength by eliminating host Beni with a resounding 7-2, while Chuquisaca secured its place in the final by beating Potosí 4-1. The dispute for third place was decided on penalties after a 2-2 draw, where Potosí triumphed over Beni 5-4.
The final between Santa Cruz and Chuquisaca was a close match that maintained tension until the last minute. With a tight 2-1, the Santa Cruz team managed to win and take the tournament title, demonstrating their skill and determination on the court.
