Logroño (EFE).- The president of the Government of La Rioja, Gonzalo Capellán, described this Tuesday as “unacceptable” that the central Executive “negotiates giving resources from the country as a whole, of what all Spaniards contribute, to a single community”, in reference to Catalonia.

Capellán, in statements to journalists about regional financing, stressed that he does not intend to “get into controversies that do not affect La Rioja”, but “this directly affects this region and the people of Rioja.”

“A change in the financing framework of the autonomies for only one affects all the others and can never be done unilaterally, without negotiating in the organizations established by the State,” explained Capellán.

A year without mentioning the autonomies

He has reproached the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, for having gone almost a year without summoning the regional presidents to address this issue.

He has also stressed that the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council (CPFF) must meet, because all the communities are represented there, to face “a multilateral, consensual and joint negotiation, as it has always been”, so “getting out of “Any of these procedures is an irregularity and is unacceptable.”

Capellán has stressed that it is “unacceptable” that “a Government, because it has elections and investitures, negotiates giving resources from the country as a whole, which all Spaniards contribute, to a specific community.”

“It is something that, as president of the people of Rioja, I am not going to accept and I am going to defend this position in all the forums where it is necessary,” he said.
