An unfortunate accident occurred on Monday night in the commune of La Unión, Los Ríos region, when a car fell into the Bueno River, resulting in the death of two people. The accident occurred in the Cocule spa sector – around 11:00 p.m. -, approximately 3 kilometers from the urban center of the provincial capital of Ranco.
According to the first reports from Carabineros, the driver of the vehicle would have lost control, crashing into a containment barrier on route T-910 before falling into the river. The victims, a man and a woman – a 60-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman – were rescued from the depths of the river by fire personnel around midnight, after the vehicle was dragged about 100 meters by the torrent.
An emergency operation was immediately deployed, involving Firefighters, Carabineros and the Emergency Medical Care Service (SAMU), who worked together to recover the bodies and secure the area.
The Carabineros officer from the 3rd Police Station of La Unión reported that, after receiving the emergency call, they moved to the scene of the accident. “According to witness statements, a vehicle had plunged into the waters of the river”, the officer mentioned. In addition, he indicated that the proceedings of the case have been assigned to the homicide brigade to facilitate the identification of the victims and clarify the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
The investigation continues to determine the exact causes of the accident and verify if there were other factors involved in the loss of control of the vehicle.
