In a recent video, TikTok user @aprendedorajeje, a “Cuban YouTuber in training” as described in her online profile, set out to discover what clothes she could buy in Cuba with 1,000 Cuban pesos. The result, according to the young woman, was “an expensive experiment,” but revealing.
“When I was little, 1000 pesos was an indecent amount of money. Let’s look at ten seasons of Palms and Reeds “Afterwards, what can I get,” the girl commented at the beginning of the video, who went directly to the second-hand stores, since in others the budget was not enough.
@aprendedorajeje explained that he found clothes in these stores from 100 to 250 pesos, although some were noticeably damaged.
With 1,000 pesos he bought two t-shirts for the gym, each for 350 pesos. “I bought two very cheap t-shirts for the gym, which cost me 350 pesos each. This one has some spots, but those can be removed with chlorine, my love, because it is white. And this other one that, as you can see, has a bit of irregular cuts, but I like that. And for the gym they are very cool and they work for me,” she explained.
“Is that Holguín?” a user asked her in the comments, to which she responded yes.
“You can buy little now, yours is a beautiful but good choice”; “Here in the United States they give away very nice clothes in churches and a lot of food,” reads among the reactions to the video that shows the high prices on the island and how difficult it is to respond to the most basic needs in a context of crisis and of galloping and unstoppable inflation.
