The goal is to move up and it is serious. Unión Magdalena, which was close to advancing to the final of the promotion tournament of the first semester led by Álvaro Hernández, announced the arrival of Jorge Luis Pinto to the technical direction.

The renowned and experienced helmsman from Santander, who was already in ‘el Ciclón’ in two cycles (1988-1989 and 1994-1996), is a great friend of Unión’s largest shareholder, Eduard Dávila Armenta.

“The main reason for the arrival of Professor Jorge Luis Pinto is because we want to promote,” said Alberto Mario Garzón, president of the club in a press conference that was broadcast through the official Instagram account.

Pinto was in Santa Marta last week, starring in a talk with the group of coaches from the Unión minor divisions.

In an interview with EL HERALDO last Monday, Pinto, who is the Colombian coach who has gone the furthest in a World Cup (quarterfinals with Costa Rica, in Brazil-2014), had assured that he was willing to coach in the Primera B, but he ruled out his arrival at Cúcuta Deportivo due to differences with its owner, José Augusto Cadena.

“I have not directed again for various reasons. The first is that I want to look for something good to do, to build, to be able to work calmly, with patience. I’m not busy. I have had offers from three teams from Bolivia, from Peru, a team in the United Arab Emirates that is not so good. Anyway, there are alternatives, but I want to look at something that I feel can be worked on, that there is simplicity, that there is support, that makes one feel good. Directing for the sake of directing, I have no desire,” Pinto declared to EL HERALDO.

“It can be a small team, it can even be from the second division, there is no problem. But that one can work calmly, that one can execute calmly, that there are balanced managers. Now one, after traveling and knowing so much, analyzes,” he added.

On his resume, Pinto has played for four national teams, Costa Rica, Colombia, Honduras and the United Arab Emirates. He was twice champion with Alianza Lima from Peru, Alajualense from Costa Rica and Deportivo Táchira from Venezuela, and once with Cúcuta Deportivo.

He also coached Santa Fe, Millonarios, Santa Fe, Deportivo Cali, Atlético Bucaramanga, Junior and El Nacional of Ecuador.
