The crisis in Córdoba due to climate variations is not giving any respite. Three months ago, Sigue La W warned of several multimillion-dollar risk mitigation projects in limbo, announced by the National Disaster Risk Management Unit in the questioned administration of Olmedo Lopez, one of these is located in the district of Callejas, in the municipality of Tierralta, Córdoba, for a value that exceeds 12,000 million pesos.

Although there were already delays in said work, the communities expected that at that time (three months ago) they would begin the work that would mitigate the emergency due to the serious erosion in the Sinú River and ravines such as El PirúIn fact, this did not happen and today nearly 1,000 families are cut off from the urban area of Tierralta.

“The road that goes from Tierralta to Batata, passing through Callejas, Camellón and Pueblo Nuevo, was cut off by a landslide that occurred (June 3), the entire road went, nothing was left (…). In this entire sector we have 7 critical passes, because the Sinú River and the El Pirú ravine are constantly taking away the road.“said the community leader of the rural area of Tierralta, Jairo Polo.

We call on government agencies to pinch themselves because we have been complaining for a long time and always the same story: we are in this, we are missing that… and so far nothing has been seen; we do not know what is happening with these projects.“We insist on the call because we are completely cut off from communication,” added the community leader.

The communities said that the works were planned for the dry season, but “we are already in June and it is the time when we do not hear anything mentioned. We hope they will help us because the money comes out, they go to the communities to explain what is going to be done and the projects never arrive.”.

In context in The W:

Faced with this situation, La W has knocked on doors in the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management, but there are still no answers. A consultation was also made with the Córdoba Risk Management Office, but at the time they stated that they would seek information in this regard because they did not have it.

This media also contacted the mayor of Tierralta, Jesus David Contreras, who agreed to report on the situation, but has not yet commented, despite constant consultations made via WhatsApp.

The forecasts are not encouraging for this region, since with the imminent arrival of the La Niña phenomenon the crisis will worsen and points like Callejas will continue to bear the brunt if urgent actions are not taken.
