There is commotion in Barrancabermeja after a new homicide that occurred around 7:00 am this Tuesday, June 18, in the Villarelys II neighborhood, in commune seven.

The victim was identified as Yair Rojas Rivera, alias ‘Caballo’, 27 years old, who was complying with a security measure in his place of residence for being a repeat offender in different crimes.

Witnesses indicated that the hitmen arrived at the house of alias ‘Caballo’ and upon knocking on the door, his stepdaughter, a minor, opened the door to the criminals who entered the house and shot him at least five times.

“The perpetrators entered by force, reached the bathroom where the victim was and hit him with a firearm. They immediately left the scene of the incident, traveling on a motorcycle in an unknown direction,” said a judicial source.

The family went out to ask the neighbors for help. Minutes later, an ambulance from the Barrancabermeja Volunteer Fire Department arrived in the Villarelis II neighborhood and took Yair Rojas to the Magdalena Clinic. He entered the emergency room without vital signs.

Rojas Rivera was captured last May 2024, in the Miradores del Lago neighborhood, when he was traveling on a motorcycle with a minor and two firearms, a 38-caliber revolver.

When he was presented before a Guarantee Control judge, he was ordered to be held in a prison, but days later the measure was changed to ‘house arrest’.

According to the Magdalena Medio Police, the deceased had been captured repeatedly for the crimes of drug trafficking, theft and illegal possession of firearms.

The violent events that occurred since last Saturday, June 15, left four people murdered in Barrancabermeja. The number of homicides so far this year has already reached 73.
