On June 15, 2023, Colombia received good news: the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) declared Tribugá-Cupica-Baudó, in Chocó, as a new reserve of the biosphere. This is the sixth for the country and the first to be declared in the Colombian Pacific.

Currently, and in compliance with activities inherent to the declaration, within the framework of the Governance Program of the Reserve Action Plan, workshops are being held in the municipalities of Nuquí and Bahía Solano to form instances of community and institutional participation. .

The space, which runs from June 17 to 20, is developed with the participation of professionals from the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, Codechocó, Pacific Environmental Research Institute, IIAP, community councils, indigenous reservations and representatives of different productive sectors that are part of this important geographical area of ​​the country.

The director of the IIAP, William Klinger, who attended the event in the company of researchers Zoraida Quezada and Zulmary Valoyes, during his speech resolved some questions from the attendees, in relation to the dynamics of the formation of the participation and decision-making bodies, At the same time, he reiterated the degree of responsibility that the communities and institutions settled in the territory have, taking into account the importance of said declaration.
