It was an opportunity to remember the work and legacy of the late former president Sebastián Piñera, but everything led to a new dispute between the mayor of Providencia and presidential figure of the UDI, Evelyn Mattheiand the ruling party.

It turns out that the community leader arrived at the Universidad del Desarrollo (UDD) this Tuesday to participate in the panel “Organized Crime and the threat to the region”where he was able to exchange diagnoses with some of the guests present, such as former president Eduardo Frei (DC), the president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou and the former heads of state Mauricio Macri (Argentina), Iván Duque (Colombia), Mario Abdo (Paraguay ) and Jorge Quiroga (Bolivia).

According to the newspaper Thirdit is in this scenario that while delivering his diagnosis and showing some solutions that have been implemented in his commune, he said that in “Chile we have institutions that are laughable.”

For this reason, the mayor added, there is “an enormous amount of progress still to be made” and that during the administration of the honored Piñera, “many laws were introduced to be able to advance in this matter” but “they were all rejected.”

“What one sees is that many times There is a dangerous relationship between people from the extreme left who are trying to do precisely to weaken these institutions.”Matthei accused.

“One does not know if they were actually weakening the Carabineros because it is a way to facilitate the entry of organized crime,” he added, adding that “There is plenty of evidence that there are already politicians who finance themselves with drug money.”

But he also accused that both judges and prosecutors have acted weakly in the face of drug trafficking. “We don’t know if it is weakness or because they are bought or threatened,” he added.

Along these lines, he asked to take urgent measures, since “the longer we delay, the greater the likelihood that people who should be fighting to protect democracy are actually weakening it.”

They ask you to provide background information

Matthei’s statements found a quick response from the ruling party. Although he did not indicate any party, the Communist Party felt that the mayor’s words were for them, so they came out to respond.

He Senator Daniel Núñez (PC) called on Matthei to hand over these names: “We find that these statements are very serious, since it is an anonymous complaint that does not identify who those politicians are who finance themselves with drug trafficking money. And obviously she, as mayor and public official, has the duty to make clear who those people are who, according to the background she has, have financing for drug trafficking.”

“I demand that the candidate present a complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office that provides all the information she has regarding these politicians who finance themselves with drug trafficking money, since otherwise, if she does not do so, she becomes an accomplice to a crime. It seems to me that we must act with transparency, that we cannot allow corruption at any time. And that she, according to the State, must provide all the information she has regarding these politicians financed with drug trafficking resources,” he concluded.
