A leased Yutong overturns on the Camagüey highway

A Yutong bus overturned on a highway in Camagüey last Tuesday, resulting in material damage and several injuries, although there were no fatalities. The accident took place in the afternoon, three kilometers from the municipality of Sibanicú.

Andrés San Román García, a member of a Facebook group dedicated to road safety, shared images of the overturned bus and some passengers. He clarifies that the incident occurred because a tourist rental vehicle overtook the bus and braked suddenly in front of it. This act, added to the wet pavement, caused the bus to skid and leave the road.

Some social media users confirmed that the bus was leased, which, according to them, tends to accelerate the wear and tear of vehicles. An émigré expressed his discontent:

“That was Viazul’s newest vehicle, always well cared for. I saw it recently and its condition was poor due to rent. Now we see the consequences.”

Another resident in Havana criticized the lack of experience of some drivers: “I understand that people seek to improve their situation, but you cannot put an inexperienced driver in charge of a bus full of people and cargo on those roads in poor condition. “Not everyone is trained to drive in those conditions.”

Additionally, it was noted that that stretch of road is especially dangerous when wet. However, a passenger who was on the bus defended the driver, indicating that he was not to blame for the accident: “A rental car overtook and braked suddenly in front of the bus. “With the pavement wet, the vehicle skidded and left the road.”

Despite the incident and the scare, no fatalities were reported, only material damage and several injured passengers.
