The report is based on online surveys conducted by the company YouGov among 95,000 people in 47 countries.

Growth is even greater “in Africa, Latin America and parts of Asia”, experts warn. The figures of Peru, where 27% of users (of all ages) use TikTok as a news source, compared to 3% in Denmark.

The problem for traditional media


Following the trend of recent years, the study shows that two-thirds of respondents globally watch at least one short video (a few minutes) on an informative topic each week.

Up to 85% of those surveyed In Peru they watch short videos weekly to inform themselves77% in Mexico (same figure as in Colombia), 76% in Brazil, 75% in Chile and a 66% in Argentina. In Spain they are 64%.

Those figures decline, although not dramatically, among the most developed countries: 60% in the United States, 57% in Canada, 45% in France, 49% in Germany.

The great problem for traditional media is that almost three quarters (72%) of this video consumption takes place in platforms and social networks, compared to only 22% on their original sitesraising questions about its ability to generate income.
