Cuadernos Cause: Macri’s cousin escaped the oral trial | Cassation gave rise to the claim of incompetence so that his case could be reviewed by the electoral justice system.

Ángelo Calcaterra, cousin of former president Mauricio Macri, managed to escape the oral trial for the payment of bribes that appear in the case known as the notebooks. The decision was made by the Federal Court of Criminal Cassation. Calcaterra was one of the repentant businessmen who benefited from Cassation; his case now goes to electoral jurisdiction. The court’s decision also reached Javier Sánchez Caballero, the businessman’s collaborator.

At the time, Macri’s cousin had admitted that he made voluntary payments considered as “campaign contributions” to the Front for Victory government. In that sense, in December of last year Calcaterra had stated that the accusations against him should be processed in the electoral jurisdiction. A request accepted by Criminal Cassation.

“We note that the data indicated, whose analysis the oral court disregarded, do not contradict the versions of Ángel Jorge Antonio Calcaterra and Héctor Javier Sánchez Caballero when they indicated that the attributed payments would have been motivated to finance the electoral campaigns of the political party Frente para the Victory of the years 2013 and 2015″, said Casación.

Calcaterra may not be the only one to benefit from this criterion. Although we will have to wait for his decision, yesterday it emerged that Casación will accept the claims of incompetence made by other businessmen who had declared themselves accused-collaborators when the case began. The prosecution or the plaintiffs can now appeal the decision and it must be reviewed by the Court.
