Under the principles of the circular economy, the Territorial Division of the Cuban Telecommunications Company (Etecsa) in Sancti Spíritus continues today with the investment that is being carried out in one of the busiest areas of this city and that allows transforming an old place into disused in a site for exchanges and knowledge about the sector.

Osmel Jiménez Deniz, specialist for Science and Technology in the Sancti Spiritus company, explained to ACN that from the point of view of the resuscitation and reuse of spaces that benefit the social environment, this is currently the only experience undertaken by entities of its kind. type in the country.

He insisted that the construction works that will restore vitality to one of the most important places in the old city due to the confluence of several centers are, in turn, part of the responsibility assumed by the different economic actors with local development.

He recalled that from a tour of representatives of the Popular Council, the neighbors themselves, the Government and directors of the branch, the idea of ​​converting the old pedestrian crossing located very close to the Camilo Cienfuegos General Hospital and the Etecsa Division into a sort of as a small museum and telecommunications library, which will also be at the service of the community.

The intention, he said, is to promote guided visits and focus circles of interest towards these areas of knowledge; while, as part of the project, a conference room was designed to organize workshops and work tables and exchanges, as well as parking for bicycles and motorcycles and a parking lot for cars of this and other organizations based in the area.

As part of the efforts to promote an increasingly comprehensive culture, the specialist highlighted that it is planned to establish alliances with centers such as the Provincial Meteorological Service, institutions of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment and of Education or the University of Sancti Spíritus José Martí Perez.

Jiménez Deniz pointed out that one of the premises of the work has been, since its beginnings, the reuse of the greatest possible amount of materials, an approach that has allowed the investment costs to be reduced; Meanwhile, he reiterated that among the entity’s priorities is everything related to the sustainable management of the environment and the community.

In recent years, Etecsa in Sancti Spíritus has excelled in state environmental inspection and, thanks to its work, it was declared a safe company in the management of hazardous waste.

This initiative is among the main investments that have been undertaken in the province of Sancti Spiritus for several months, works that, with the decisive participation of workers’ groups, gain greater momentum in the heat of the designation of the territory as the headquarters of the central event for the 26th. of July.

In accordance with the decision of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, without ignoring the complexities that the nation is going through, this region shows progress, among other aspects, in computerization and the science and innovation management system exhibits a favorable impact on various areas and in local development projects.
