The ‘Banda de San Isidro’ is dismantled in La Plata, Huila

The Huila Police dismantled the ‘San Isidro Gang’, a criminal group made up of seven members of the same family, identified as the main distributors of narcotics in La Plata.

The operation, the result of 12 months of investigation, was led by the Criminal Investigation Section with the support of intelligence units, Carabineros, Children and Adolescents, and the SIART patrol equipped with a drone. These coordinated efforts culminated in the capture of 14 individuals, of which 12 were arrested by court order and 2 in flagrante delicto.

Colonel Carlos Téllez, commander of the Huila Police Department, reported that the gang, active for approximately two years and headed by a subject known as ‘Brayan’, was involved in a series of crimes, including drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons, and homicide. Additionally, they are accused of using minors to sell and distribute drugs, a tactic that not only increased their profits but also extended their criminal influence in the community.

During the operation, the authorities carried out eight search and seizure procedures, seizing nearly 7 kilos of marijuana, more than 100 marijuana cigarettes ready for distribution, 20 doses of coca base, and two pistol-type firearms. In addition, elements intended for the dosage and packaging of illicit substances were found.

The gang’s income came largely from marijuana trafficking, with each 500-gram package valued at approximately 40 thousand pesos and divided into 250 doses that were sold for 2,000 pesos each, generating weekly profits of more than 16 million pesos. According to reports, more than 8,000 doses of drugs were sold weekly.

In relation to other crimes, two members of this organization were charged with the murder of an individual known as ‘España’, a murder that occurred last April and was allegedly linked to disputes over the control of micro-trafficking in the area.

After the preliminary hearings, and after the legalization of capture, accusation and request for a security measure, 12 of those captured were sent to prison centers, marking a significant step in the fight against organized crime in Huila.
