The tourist hub of Holguín, one of the most important in Cuba, closed the high season at the end of April with results that, although mixed, demonstrate the potential and resilience of the region in the tourism sector. Despite a slight decrease in the number of tourists compared to the previous season, other indicators reflect a positive and hopeful performance for the future.

Carlos Álvarez Infante, commercial specialist of the Provincial Delegation of the Ministry of Tourism (Mintur) in Holguín, highlighted to local Radio that the economic plans planned for the territory have not only been fulfilled, but have exceeded expectations in relation to the year 2023. .

“In terms of profits we have grown, although in commercial data we have observed a minimum decrease of 1.5 percent in the movement of clients to the destination. However, in general, the season has been favorable, since the international airport Frank País has managed more than 700 air operations, with an average of almost 64 operations per week,” said Álvarez Infante.

Canada continues to be the main issuing market, providing more than 70 percent of tourists, followed by residents of the country, Germany and Italy, countries that have maintained constant air connections during the season. This constant flow of international visitors has allowed us to maintain a solid tourism base in the region, crucial for the local economy.

The prospects for the future are promising, with the increase in the territory’s hotel capacity and the opening of new facilities in the Ramón de Antilla hub. The growth of traditional markets, such as Canada, and the possible opening of new air routes also predict a prosperous future. “Among the projections for next season are new flights from Russia, the Czech Republic and England. The latter will begin its direct air connection with the province on June 21,” explained the commercial specialist.

The arrival of summer is anticipated favorably, especially with optimistic projections for winter 2024-2025. A group of travel agents who toured the tourist hub after the FitCuba 2024 International Tourism Fair expressed very positive satisfaction with the facilities and services offered, which strengthens expectations for the next high season.

Currently, the province has more than seven thousand 900 rooms and offers a wide diversity of tourism modalities, consolidating itself as one of the most important destinations on the Island. This diversification not only strengthens the national economy through the income generated by tourism. , but also improves infrastructure and quality of life in the region.

The commercial management in prestigious hotel facilities at a national and international level, added to the natural and cultural wealth of the region, positions Holguín as a strategic destination. With unique tourist attractions and products in eastern Cuba, the province not only resists market fluctuations, but also projects itself towards a future of sustained growth and greater contributions to the Cuban economy.
