The archbishop of Córdoba celebrated a mass for the women of soup kitchens – Notes – Now country

This Thursday morning, Cardinal Ángel Rossi presided over a mass for the women who support the soup kitchens. The religious ceremony was held from 11 a.m., in the Monseñor Enrique Angelelli y Compañeros Mártires chapel, located in the Villa Angelelli 2 neighborhood of the city of Córdoba.

“In a special way the testimony of so many women who every day ‘they put the country on their shoulders’ from the popular, solidarity and parish soup kitchens,” says the text released by the Archbishopric.

In this way, the Church of Córdoba joined a similar mass that the village priests celebrated this Wednesday at the Sanctuary of the Virgin of Caacupé in Ciudad Evita, in La Matanza, to focus on the most vulnerable sectors and the distribution of food.

This celebration was led by the president of the Argentine Episcopal Conference, Monsignor Óscar Ojea.

In an interview with Chain 3, the priest for the Curas Villeros summit, Pablo Viola, emphasized that these masses should not be confused with other recent celebrations, which have had a political overtone. “One thing is what this mass is and another thing is the mass that we are organizing for these days,” he explained.

However, the priest said that he is not concerned about “the spontaneous expressions of the people” and pointed out: “That is being afraid of the people expressing themselves and being judged by sectors that look at reality by constructing stories.”

According to Viola, these masses seek to recognize and value the women who work every day in the neighborhoods to feed those most in need.

“We want to recognize the women who work daily in the neighborhoods in different places, such as in a small house, in a garage, in a chapel, in a community hall, in a neighborhood center and do what they do not have to be able to bring food to our people and they take care of life and feed it,” he said. “It seems to us that they are really the mothers of the country,” he stated.

In this context, the priest harshly criticized the current discussion about whether food should be distributed or not: “We should be ashamed.”

Viola also pointed out his concern about the accusations against some social movements about misappropriation of funds intended for social welfare: “I, walking in the neighborhoods, have seen how they were transforming the life of the neighborhood in real and concrete terms.”

In this sense, he said that the worst thing that can happen to the Church is “to distance ourselves from reality.”

“There are canteens in the surrounding area that have closed and there has been an increase in need and other canteens that have had to reduce the number of days they serve, because they do not have the financing they had before,” he indicated.

Finally, he called for reflection and action: “The best thing would be for everyone to eat at home the fruit of their work. It is shameful that in Argentina we are discussing this.”

Ángel Rossi: “This was not a mass of political flags”

Unlike other recent religious events that have generated controversy due to their political tone, the Archbishop of Córdoba, Ángel Rossi, emphasized that this mass was not a “mass of political flags,” but rather a tribute to the mothers and women who maintain the dining rooms. .

“It is not taking a position under any flag, but rather championing these worthy women who care with their affection, with the care of giving food to the children every morning,” Rossi said during the ceremony. The archbishop avoided making political comments and focused on praising the work done by women.

There was no presence of important political figures during the mass. Neither Governor Llaryora nor Mayor Passerini attended the event because both had official commitments to celebrate Flag Day. However, officials in charge of social development in both the province and the municipality were present.
