The governor of the Atlantic, Eduardo Summeraccompanied by the technical team of the departmental administration and the Soledad mayor’s officevisited two of the points most affected by the strong rains of the last few days that caused several emergencies in the municipality.

The president announced the interventions with mitigation works in one of the points most affected by the scour due to the strong current of the El Platanal stream, in the vicinity of the La Fe neighborhood, there several slabs of the protective slope fell away. Very close to there, the Villegas stream that carries its waters to the El Platanal stream caused damage in the Normandía sector.

“We came to witness directly the effects and accompany the people of Soledad in this situation. We reached an agreement and it must be attended to quickly. On Friday, the designs of the solutions to obtain the resources will be defined with the support of the National Unit for Disaster Risk Management,” said Verano.

Azael CharrisSecretary of Infrastructure of the Atlantic, indicated that work began on the ground stabilization. The work consists of filling with big bags to prevent water from entering behind the slabs and dragging them into the waters.

“We are mitigating the natural erosion process to buy time and prepare because the rainy season continues. All banks will be protected and we will structure the slopes to prevent future currents from washing away the bank structures,” added Charris.

For her part, the mayor of Soledad, Alcira Sandovalthanked the governor for the visit to the municipality and reiterated that she trusts that the departmental leader will support her in seeking immediate technical solutions to the serious problem represented by the deterioration of the canals of the Soledad streams.

“We appreciate the support of the Government and the National governmentbut at the same time we call on the community, because they must be observers, we cannot build houses near the streams, as happens in Soledad, nor allow people from the neighborhoods or individuals who come from other places to deposit garbage in the streams,” the president pointed out.
