Likewise, the best variation occurred in the Business Environment pillar, moving from position 32 in 2023 to 22 in 2024.

One of the indices in which the department improves is in market sophistication in which Córdoba rose 10 positions, going from 32nd place to 22nd. An achievement that is the result of the strategies implemented in competitive missions, as well as the generation of trust with the productive sector. The Secretary of Competitiveness and International Cooperation, Boris Zapata Romero, who explained that the progress in the market sophistication index is largely due to collaborative work with various institutions, such as the Chamber of Commerce of Montería, Promontería, Ganacor and Fenalco, which has helped strengthen the department’s capabilities and advance its economic development goals.

Furthermore, market size initiatives have also been pointed out as positive examples, thanks to the efforts of the Regional Competitiveness Commission. “The work carried out by the Regional Competitiveness Commission has been so outstanding that it has become a model to follow in the Ministry of Commerce, which shows the positive impact of policies and strategies on regional economic development,” said Zapata Romero. .

This work to improve the business environment in the department is the result of “understanding that we are here to generate trust and articulate with the private sector,” said the governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta Bechara, who added that this task began from the signed in January the memorandum of understanding with the unions, “supporting tourism entrepreneurs in Anato, continuing with the showcase of the event that showed our health and well-being sector, bringing diplomatic missions to the department, having permanent meetings with the business sector, implementing the Internationalization Table, turning the Livestock Fair into a national event, activating the Regional Council of Competitiveness and Innovation, developing the International Competitive Missions strategy, in short, building trust and investment possibilities,” he pointed out.

Despite these advances, Córdoba faces challenges in areas such as institutions, innovation, science and technology. These areas require continued attention, as it is currently lagging in many of these indicators. The goal of the governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta Bechara, is to work on the consolidation of programs and projects included in the Departmental Development Plan “Córdoba has everything to be at another level”, to improve these indices of the department and bring it to be in the top 10 in competitiveness in the country.
