Today, Friday, June 21, marks one month since the factory closure announcement Textilcom and the subsequent “takeover” of the plant by the laid-off workers.

The day before the conflict, the employees had been notified not to attend, due to the lack of materials to work with, the delay in the payment of their salaries and the costs of daily transportation. Alerted by “strange movements” in the factory, they found the material packed, ready for transfer.

Since then, the dismissed employees spend the night in the factory and They are supported by popular pots waiting for the response committed by the Government.

“We are still here in this fight and we are firm,” said Vanesa, one of the spokespersons. “By our own decision we have closed the machine area and we are living where the offices and warehouse were,” she explained in an interview.

In the kitchen they store food that they receive as donations or those that they can purchase, and they take turns both cooking and staying at night.

The help of 200 thousand pesos two weeks ago was far away and they hope to collect the unemployment fund. “We have people who cannot pay the rent, people from the interior who if it is not here they have to return home. “We are waiting,” she indicated.

Some go out to look for work “or what they can” during the day, to “obtain some income for their families because unfortunately they cannot continue waiting.”

The hope is to be able to achieve a quick solution to this conflict of more than thirty days.

Alias

Meanwhile, the workers appeal to the good will of the people. They spread the alias textile workers where they raise money for the day-to-day running of the soup kitchen they established weeks ago. Those who take turns taking turns taking care of the sewing machines eat there.
