With the connotation of celebrating its 60th edition, the National School and Youth Games are just around the corner, which requires multiplying the organizational aspects and accelerating the pace of conditioning in the competitive areas and in the main accommodation village: the EIDE Lino Salabarría.

The festival brings together 429 people from Sancti Spiritus, including 313 athletes in 27 of the 33 sports, except synchronized swimming, diving, basketball, handball, sailing and Basque pelota. The delegation is completed with 64 coaches, 16 delegates and 34 referees.

According to information from Ketty Cruz, head of the Department of Sports Organization and Programming in the Provincial Sports Sector, in the case of youth there will be 110 participants: 85 athletes (66 male and 19 female), in addition to 18 coaches, three delegates and four referees.

“The Sancti Spiritus headquarters will host six disciplines in two stages. From June 30 to July 5, school and youth sports shooting and youth baseball, if there are no changes; and from 8 to 14, men’s U-18 football, archery and school road cycling. We want to maintain last year’s seventh place, when the best historical result was equaled. Despite the complex situation, preparation has been carried out, some sports more than others. Due to the competitive critical path, fuel and transportation limitations, some have had to compete with nearby provinces, they have not been able to do so with the eastern ones which, in most sports, are the strong rivals we have, but there is a lot of optimism.” .

REVOLUTION IN THE EIDE

After a lethargy of months, the engines were finally activated at the EIDE Lino Salabarría and for these days, intense days of work are remodeling, rebuilding, cleaning, painting and giving a better face to what will be the accommodation villa for the participants.

Several brigades of construction companies in the territory have divided the center into pieces and are joining efforts to fix what they can in record time. One of the groups belongs to the Jatibonico construction company, which during the last month, among other actions, has brought life back to a hostel that has remained inactive for 10 years due to general deterioration. “We have renovated the bathrooms, including a new veneer, we have solved the rot that existed, we have changed showers, feathers, repaired breakdowns, walls,” explains Juan Antonio Gutiérrez, head of Supply and Transportation of the entity. This was deplorable and we have almost built a new shelter.”

Similar actions are carried out in other shelters, where an attempt is made to solve long-standing problems of leaks, leaks, showers and water faucets, toilet bowls are installed, walls are patched, and the carpentry of the bunk beds is remodeled.

“We have made progress,” says Maideivis Portal Benavides, director of the institution; We are in shock tasks, finishing everything that includes ceramics, the hydraulics were changed in the six shelters that we have committed as headquarters, we have the cups that the national directorate of Inder sent. It is a repair that we have been longing for and we already see the result, the bunk beds are being assembled, the planks are arriving thanks to the support of Forestal and Emprova, we have 100 new mattresses and we are waiting for another group, blinds are being changed, all the dining room tables, there is a level of resources to decorate it, we are painting hostels and other parts of the school, cleaning areas. Everyone is involved, the Micons, the Constructora del Poder Popular, the Epase, the Jatibonico brigade and, above all, the workers who have a high commitment to all the tasks.

“The repair extends to the sports areas that will be hosted, such as the shooting range that was painted and cleaned, we already have important resources that are used in the competition. The entire place is revived; In the soccer area, work is also being done, the goals are changed, the dogouts are painted, and in the baseball field we are waiting for the competition to be closer to paint it, like other areas.”

Part of the financing came from the budget of the provincial Inder (about 3 million pesos) and from the national direction (about 2 million), as corroborated by Laidalí Santana, director of Sports in Sancti Spíritus, also on site to promote what It is the heart of the 60×65=Fidel movement.

“This has been revolutionized for the better. We must highlight the sense of belonging of everyone, we have had the help of the Party, the Government, the companies of the territory that have been working with great effort every day to provide a quality service to the EIDE, despite the limitations of resources; “But with the few that there are and the help of the workers dedicated to the field, the financing of the Government and our national organization, we are committed to making this a worthy headquarters.”
