The Library at the service of the community

In this month of June we have celebrated a new anniversary of the founding of San Juan, we turned 462 years old; to which we also add Writer’s Day and National Book Day.

In Argentina, since 1938, every June 13, Writer’s Day is honored in commemoration of the birth of the journalist and poet Leopoldo Lugones, founder and first president of the Argentine Society of Writers (Sade). Also, every June 15, since 1941, by resolution of the Ministry of Education of the Nation, Book Day is celebrated, perhaps the most important invention of human culture that has challenged time, fashions and man himself in the world. time and space.

The library is conceived as an active and lively force, as an action for the promotion and development of knowledge and information, where the professional librarian does not sit back and wait for the reading user, but rather goes out in search of him, inviting him and motivating him to that develops the reading habit and the pleasure of reading.

>Promotion of reading
All libraries try to carry out cultural extension activities, closely related to the heritage of their bibliographic collection, aimed at inducing aesthetic enjoyment and recreation. Based on this, the concept of reading promotion is revalued as a social practice proposed to encourage, disseminate and promote reading occasions with children, young people and adults, strengthening the library-community link.

One of the most widespread library outreach actions is Story Time, which constitutes a process that helps grow, that enhances personal development; that somehow gives life to the characters and their stories, relating the protagonists of this adventure of reading and listening: the reader and the narrative.

Animation is an intentional performance that, with playful and creative strategies, tries to transform individual and collective attitudes and qualities around reading. For the modern library, it is a priority to train critical readers and develop activities aimed at discovering not only the pleasure of reading, but also the value and usefulness of reading. Whatever the conception of the library and the mission that it has outlined in the educational, informative, community support, and research fields, we must always keep in mind that an individual reader with a positive attitude will always be a potential user of the Library; and these potential users are the ones who will ultimately guarantee our existence in the environment.

>Increase vocabulary and train the brain
Frequent reading of stories helps to increase vocabulary; It serves as an exercise to train the brain, concentration, decision making, imagination and creativity. With the reading habit, there will always be an exercise that improves memory, reduces stress and the social and emotional development of people can be achieved. Hence, the importance of the teaching work of the library as an educational institution at the service of the community.

The library constitutes a place of autonomous pedagogical action, through the organization of a great diversity of printed, audiovisual, and electronic materials that allow, with the committed mediation of the librarian, to generate reading spaces that transcend the framework of the educational institution and are project to life.

Currently, preserving the spirit of its founders, it works from Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., with the aim of adapting to new technologies and the complex challenges that education must face, within the framework of a transformation process. social, economic, political and cultural.
