The Institute of Meteorology issued an urgent alert due to the extreme weather conditions that are developing and will affect the entire country.

In a recent report on weather forecasts, cited by ACNCuban meteorologists warn that intense rains are related to a very humid flow in the lower levels of the atmosphere, in combination with strong currents in the upper levels of the troposphere.

This Saturday, in just three hours, between 2:00 and 5:00 pm, 56 millimeters of rain were reported and that caused flash floods in several parts of the capital.

Rainfall will persist in the west of the country during the weekend and will spread to the rest of the archipelago, with the possibility of being intense in some locations.

Additionally, a broad low pressure center has been located over the southwestern Gulf of Mexico, generating a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms.

Environmental conditions are favorable for gradual development of a possible tropical depressionwhich will move slowly towards the west-northwest or towards the northwest.

There is a chance for the tropical depression to form before this system reaches the coast of northeastern Mexico on Sunday night.

Cuban authorities urge the population to take precautions against possible flash floods and landslides.
