A fire inside a home in the Unión de Reyes popular council, Matanzas, caused critical injuries to four people. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to other nearby properties.

The incident occurred in the kitchen of the house due to a gas leak from a boiler that had been present since the previous day. By lighting charcoal a few meters from the leak, the accumulated gas ignited and began to spread rapidly. As a result, two men and two adult women suffered serious burns. In addition, the fire destroyed a television and a fan.

The victims were taken to the “José Machado” emergency polyclinic in the municipality, where they received first aid. Subsequently, due to the severity of their burns, they were referred to the “Comandante Faustino Pérez” provincial hospital to receive specialized care.

In a report released through social networks, the hospital director reported that the patients are in extremely critical condition due to the complexity and severity of their burns.

The incident has not been reported by the official press, although the information has circulated widely on social networks, where witnesses and family members have shared details and photographs of the incident. According to these reports, the gas leak had been noticed the day before, but adequate measures were not taken to correct it. The combination of the gas leak with the proximity of the coal fire created an extremely dangerous situation that led to the explosion.

The residents of Unión de Reyes have also expressed their concern on social networks about the safety of the gas cylinders and the lack of quick responses to repair potentially dangerous leaks. In addition, the lack of media coverage by the official media has been criticized, which has generated a debate about transparency and the speed in the dissemination of information in emergency situations.
