Officially, Luis Gilberto Murillo already has a replacement in the United States embassy. This Wednesday, Daniel García Peña’s resume for this position was published. which confirms his appointment to represent Colombia before one of its most important allies.
Precisely EL TIEMPO, in its EN SECRET section, had confirmed that Joe Biden’s government had already granted approval for García Peña to arrive in Washington to take over the embassy that has been officially vacant since the end of May. With the approval, all that was left was for his appointment to be confirmed from Colombia.

The first step has already been taken, his resume has already been published, so all that remains is for President Gustavo Petro to make the official appointment for his arrival at the most important embassy for Colombia to be fully confirmed. In this way, the Colombian president managed to position someone close to him in representation before the United States.
Despite the differences that existed between Petro and García Peña when the former was mayor of Bogotá, these were resolved and the president took them into account to strengthen Colombian diplomacy. He was first considered to assume the vice chancellery, replacing Francisco Coy, who was sent as ambassador to Uruguay.
However, lack of diplomatic experience prevented him from reaching this position. However, when the departure of Álvaro Leyva as Chancellor and the arrival of Murillo to this position was confirmed, his arrival in the diplomatic service materialized.
The approval of the United States did not officially take more than a month. It was at the end of May that the president announced that Daniel García Peña would no longer be vice chancellor and at the end of June his investiture as ambassador was confirmed.
