The Riojan expedition that went to Pontevedra for the Spanish Under-18 Championship of regional teams did not have a good performance and could not avoid the last position in the general classification, very far from the penultimate team.

The competition concluded dominated by the Andalusian team that was proclaimed champion of the National Under’18 in direct competition with Catalonia (winner of the last five editions). The first two finishers finished tied on points and it was the highest number of partial victories for Andalusia, which gave the winners’ trophy to the southern team.

Although, collectively, the result was not good, there were individual performances that were at an acceptable level.

Sofía Moreno was the best of the Riojans by finishing fifth in the javelin throwing contest with 39.44; Miguel Monforte, for his part, was eighth in the 1,500 with a personal best (3.55.81); Marina Ochoa won her 100 hurdles heat with 15.23, but most of the Rioja athletes occupied the last two or three positions in the classification.

Álvaro Balmaseda achieved the best mark of his life (52.95) in the 400m in a good individual race, but even that did not help the Beronia athlete to be able to contribute more than two points to his team’s score.
