Good practices for winter

Given the official arrival of winter in the southern hemisphere, ENRE reminds you of some practices aimed at preventing low temperatures from cooling your home. If you listen to them, you will also be using electrical energy responsibly.

  • When choosing an appliance to heat yourself, compare the consumption between different air conditioning models, a small fan heater with a thermostat, a three-candle halogen stove with a thermostat, a quartz stove with a thermostat.
  • Before buying an air conditioner, I chose an efficient prototype. To do this, consult the data that appears on the energy efficiency label.
  • If you can, thermally insulate the walls, ceilings, and floors of your house (this alternative reduces air conditioning consumption by between 35 and 70 percent). Otherwise, seal any cold air leaks in doors and windows.

About air conditioning

  • Put it at 21° C.
  • Only turn it on in an environment where there are people, and make sure it is turned off when no one is there.
  • Press the button to adjust the air flow direction. Remember that the deflector in a vertical position reverses the natural tendency of hot air to rise and stagnate against the ceiling.

General recommendations

  • On sunny days, I raised the blinds, pulled back the curtains. Do it in the morning, for no more than ten minutes, so your house loses little heat and has time to recover it during the day.
  • To preserve temperate environments, make sure to close the windows tightly.
  • At night, and eventually when it rains a lot, lower the blinds all the way.
  • Review other good practices in favor of responsible electricity consumption.
