The team led by Herman Mlé fell at the UACJ Gymnasium in Ciudad de Juárez 81-77 against the local team but will have revenge this Tuesday. The boys ran from behind from the beginning of the match but, thanks to a great second half, they overcame the deficit and were close to winning the game at the end.
The local team imposed conditions from the beginning and always maintained the lead on the scoreboard. They took advantage of their advantage near the basket and dominated the duel in the paint to take the first two sets 29-21 and 21-15. Argentina took a while to find a way back, especially on the defensive side, and went into halftime down 50-36.
However, the national cast changed its face in the second half. He proposed alternatives to counteract his rival’s inside game, improved in defense and was able to run in transition. He won the third set 23-17 and reduced the score to ten, behind a good job by Santiago Trouet. In the last chapter, the boys scored by one digit and even got one possession away in the final minutes. Santiago Trouet and Gonzalo Corbalán were the top scorers for the local team with 15 points each. The power forward from the University of San Diego added 7 rebounds, while Corbalán, who plays in the LEB Oro of Spain, contributed 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals. Juani Marcos added 11 points with 6 rebounds and Gonzalo Bressán finished with 10. All twelve players saw action, including a promising entry by Fracisco Conrradi, one of the last to join the team. Argentina shot 10 of 31 in triples, but just 13 of 23 in free throws for 56%. Mexico won the duel in the paint and the battle on the boards, including 15 offensive rebounds.
The National Team tour will continue this Tuesday from 10 p.m., against the same rival and can be seen through Basquet Pass.
