Haro dance in honor of San Felices

Hundreds of people filled the parish of Santo Tomás Apóstol in Haro this Tuesday to witness the traditional solemn mass. All of them came to honor San Felices de Bilibio, patron saint of the town, who walked the streets decorated with flowers and the flag of the Rioja community.

Another of the protagonists in the mass was the Haro Polyphonic Choir that accompanied this celebration with its voices along with the parish organ and thus complemented the solemn mass. Some local authorities also participated in this event, including Guadalupe Fernández, mayor of Haro, and Gonzalo Capellán, president of the Government of La Rioja, also attended.

After the tribute to San Felices, the patron left the parish to walk the streets, accompanied by the ladies and the beautiful girls of Bilibio, members of the Brotherhood of San Felices as well as the dancers from the San Vicente de la Sonsierra Dance Group. Thus, the saint and his entourage walked through the streets of Haro together with the relics and traveled in procession through the Herradura, the Plaza de la Paz, the street of La Vega and part of the Ventilla to return again to the parish and finish in this way the traditional acts in honor of the patron saint of Haro.

But the celebrations did not end there, after the mass and the procession, the presentation of the ‘Jarrerismo 2023’ prize as well as the Jarro de Haro to the Aguirre-Fresno family, owners of the Beethoven Restaurant since 1941, took place in the Faro room of the Bendaña Palace. .

And so the events continued throughout this day so loved by the jarreros where they could also enjoy the concert of the music band; children’s performances with the works ‘En la boca del lobo’ and ‘Centrifugado’ by Titiriteros de Binéfar and Producciones Kinser respectively; the tribute to The Beatles known as ‘The Nowhere Plan’; the tasting of blanched chorizo, Rioja wine and soft drink organized by the ‘Los Veteranos’ group; or the musical entertainment by the brass band ‘Dkie’. Thus until concluding this day of San Felices with the collection of fireworks by Pirotecnia Zaragozana in the El Mazo park.

This Wednesday the celebrations will continue with a day with more activities for the little ones such as the running of papier-mâché bulls around the youth center, the giants and big heads or the sheaf throwing contest. During the snail seasoning contest, the Grandfathers of Wine will be proclaimed, this year falling to Eduardo García Novales (Vinagrerías Vínicas Leogar), Salvador Fernández López (Vinos Salva), Manuel Cándido Crespo Asenjo (Muga), José Fernando González Ruiz (Bodegas Muga ) and María Vega Beltrán Brinquis (Bodegas Federico Paternina).
