Likewise, the director of Carabineros pointed out that the operation generates the loss of direct income, and thus, the ‘Gulf clan’ has stopped receiving profits related to the transportation, the commercialization of the mineral and the chemical agents used in the mining production.

The environmental impact of this operation is also aimed at complying with Sentence T-622 of 2016, issued by the Constitutional Court, which recognizes the Atrato River, its basin and tributaries, as an entity subject to rights to protection, conservation, maintenance and restoration. With this operation, not only the environment is protected, but also local communities, mitigating the adverse impact of illegal mining on the water resources and biodiversity of the region.
