Córdoba Govtech. With more than 150 public agents, the Smart City Seminar Cycle began together with the UNC and IDB Lab

  • Ignacio Gei, Secretary of Smart City and Digital Transformation of the Municipality of Córdoba, together with Lucas Lanza, specialist in smart cities, led this first meeting.

The Govtech Innovation Laboratory, CorLab, of the Smart City Secretariat of the Municipality, in collaboration with the National University of Córdoba and with the support of IDB Lab, began the Smart City Seminar Cycle. This first meeting, titled “The Future of Smart Cities: Trends and Opportunities for Córdoba” had the participation of 150 municipal officials and collaborators interested in promoting the innovation and smart city agenda. The series of seminars is a free training proposal aimed at raising awareness among municipal officials and public agents about the importance of adopting an innovative vision for smarter management of the city. With these spaces, the aim is to prepare the local public administration for the new challenges implied by accelerated urbanization and growing citizen demands.

The seminar featured a presentation by Ignacio GeiSecretary of Smart City and Digital Transformation of the Municipality of Córdoba, and Lucas Lanza, specialist in smart cities, who highlighted the opportunity that exists in this model through reference cases and starting points of the municipality. Moderation was carried out by Luciano CrisafulliUndersecretary of Knowledge Economy of the Municipality of Córdoba.

In this sense, Ignacio Gei highlighted the municipality’s vision to move towards a smarter city, presenting the main lines of action that are being promoted to achieve it and underlining the importance of training spaces to guide the city towards more intelligent, inclusive and sustainable management. For its part, Lucas Lanza, presented the bases that constitute a smart city through national and international reference cases and emphasizing the importance of putting people as the focus of this model. Likewise, he highlighted the opportunity that Córdoba has to take advantage of this model, understanding that the public sector is in a stage of data acquisition, and that it is essential to collect, organize, process and transform it into useful information for decision making.

These spaces renew the municipality’s commitment to provide officials and public servants of the Municipality of Córdoba with the tools and knowledge necessary to face the challenges that arise from growing urbanization, and position Córdoba as a leading city in innovation and intelligent development, with more and better services for citizens.

In strategic alliance with IDB Lab, the Municipality of Córdoba implements the Córdoba Govtech Program that seeks to promote the Innovation Ecosystem to improve services to citizens. It has 4 work components that have so far allowed: a) The preparation of public demand, through a proposed ordinance to promote Public Purchases of Prepared Entrepreneurial Innovation and the training of public innovation agents; b) strengthening the offer of solutions through supporting Govtech Startups with bootcamp, incubation and acceleration programs; c) public-private linkage, generating joint planning spaces for future actions through Govtech Demo day and public innovation challenges and d) strategic investment through the Córdoba Smart City Fund and implementation of innovative solutions in the municipality.
