The Ministry of Health and Sports launched, this Tuesday afternoon, the national anti-rabies vaccination campaign with nearly four million doses distributed throughout the national territory. For the department of Santa Cruz, 986,424 biological products were delivered for immunization, which corresponds to 27% of the total.

The Minister of Health and Sports, María Renée Castro, indicated that the National Government invested more than Bs 8.8 million for this purpose.

“We usually wait until August, which is the month when the fight against rabies is launched; This for us could not wait, for that reason we have accelerated several steps to undertake a task that we have pending as a country, which is the fight against canine and feline rabies“said the minister, at a press conference.

The vaccine doses were distributed as follows: 861,120 doses to the department of Peace; 159,120 to Oruro; 252,720 to Potosí; 851,760 to Cochabamba; 205,920 to Chuquisaca; 215,280 to Tarija; 986,424 to Santa Cruz; 111,950 to Beni and 41,523 doses to Pando.

Anti-rabies vaccination coverage in 2023 was 91%, Castro reported.

On the other hand, he urged citizens to responsibly own pets. He highlighted the need to vaccinate them and go to the veterinarian for their respective check-ups. For this reason, he invited pet owners in the country to take them to receive their anti-rabies dose, to the different vaccination points.

Castro recalled that anti-rabies vaccination is free.

In the first half of the year, 24 cases of rabies were recorded

Likewise, the minister detailed that in 2023, 180 cases of rabies were registered; while this 2024, So far this year, 24 cases have already been reported: 17 cases in Cochabamba, four in Chuquisaca, one in Potosí and two in the department of La Paz.
