Milei proposes to eliminate the provinces’ control over the waterway

The President of the Nation would sign a DNU that would establish the elimination of ECOVINA, an entity controlled by the provinces that has, among its functions, the preparation of specifications and bases for the bidding of the waterway. In addition, the tolls on the waterway would be increased by between 25% and 30%.

In the last few hours it was learned that the National Government is preparing a new Decree of Necessity and Urgency (DNU) with the objective of eliminating the National Entity for Control and Management of Navigable Waterways (ECOVINA), which is currently the controlled autonomous body. through the seven coastal provinces, including Corrientes.

Javier Milei will annul the DNU presented during the administration of Alberto Fernández, which established the call for international bidding to concession the dredging and beaconing works of the waterway. He will maintain the private system, but without endorsement from the National or Provincial State.

With the closure of ECOVINA, the provinces will be left without control of the waterway contractors and the preparation of the bidding specifications and conditions; passing to the scope of the Undersecretariat of Ports and Navigable Waterways (SPVN).

On the other hand, a new increase is being prepared, approximately between 25% and 30% in toll rates in order to correct the operating deficit carried by the General Administration of Ports (AGP).

It is also expected that a new tender process will be created to award maintenance and signalling works on the main waterway with the possibility of dividing it into sections. In this way, different selection processes would be called, delegating the power to the Undersecretariat of Ports and Waterways to carry out these tenders. (N&CA)
