The National Police of La Rioja warns of a new type of scam whose victims are elderly people. This is the so-called ‘neighbor scam’, and it is occurring in the community and in neighboring provinces.

The modus operandi of the criminal method consists of locating the home of elderly people, pretending to be a neighbor’s relative and, under the pretext of waiting for their friend or family member, waiting at their home to, once inside, steal jewelry, valuables and money. .

Previously, criminals surveil neighboring communities and select elderly victims and obtain personal information from the victims to credibly present themselves as a relative or close friend of a neighbor. Later, he approached the victims, either knocking on their door or provoking a meeting on the street.
