Two minors recovered and abundant war material seized in an operation against the ELN in Labranzagrande.

In a strategic operation, the Sixteenth Brigade of the Army, under the command of Colonel Carlos Realpe, carried out a stability action in the Guayabal village, located in the municipality of Labranzagrande. The result was the recovery of weapons and key materials that were in the hands of an ELN stronghold.

During the operation, two 5.56 caliber M-16 rifles were recovered; a 7.62 caliber Galil rifle; a 9 mm Gloth Pistol; uniforms and Quartermaster Material for Military Use; computers and notebooks with records of extortionate payments.

What initially began as a search procedure, ordered by the First Prosecutor’s Office of Bogotá in the Guayabal district, became a confrontation with an ELN stronghold belonging to the José David Suárez commission, commanded by alias “Valverde”; This group operated about half a year ago in the jurisdiction of Labranzagrande and it is estimated that there are approximately six members left in the area.

The operation not only dismantled part of the guerrilla group’s structure, but also provided crucial information to intelligence agencies.

The operation was supported by police intelligence, Air Force coverage and the mobilization of the Gaula military group of the 16th Brigade.

Two young people, a 13-year-old girl and a 17-year-old boy, from Fortul, surrendered without resistance to the military troops that carried out the operation. Both had been recruited into the guerrilla ranks for a short time and were handed over to the competent authorities for the restoration of their rights.
