Landslide of the Quebrada La Vega threatens an avalanche in Recetor Casanare

The Government of Casanare, through the Disaster Risk Management Directorate, has carried out a thorough technical inspection of the landslide that affects the La Vega ravine. This natural phenomenon covers approximately 4 hectares in the upper part of Pueblo Nuevo, in the municipality of Recetor.

The professionals assigned to this agency have evaluated the conditions of the terrain and have identified a potential risk of a torrential flood (avalanche) due to the magnitude of the landslide. The location, just 1.2 km from the town center, makes this situation especially worrying.

As a result of the inspection, Mayor Diego Peña has led a Municipal Disaster Risk Management Council, in collaboration with the Departmental Administration. During this strategic meeting, crucial decisions have been made to prevent and mitigate the effects of this landslide:

Early Warning System: A permanent monitoring system will be established, with trained lookouts and alarms to warn the community of any change in ground conditions.

Evacuation Plan: Evacuation routes and safe points have been defined to guarantee the safety of the inhabitants in case of emergency. In addition, a call chain has been established to coordinate the response.

Drill: A drill will be carried out to prepare the community and evaluate the effectiveness of the measures implemented.

The Government of Casanare is committed to the safety and well-being of its inhabitants. These preventive actions seek to reduce vulnerability and protect the population from possible natural disasters.
