Expocaribe: Opens its doors to exchange, commerce and regional integration

The second commercial exchange of the Greater Antilles, is already a reality despite the difficult economic situation that the country is experiencing, immersed in the transformation of the social economic model, opens this space for exchange, the materialization of businesses to continue betting on a better future.

In the opening words, Manuel Falcón Hernández, Governor of Santiago de Cuba, highlighted that “this edition is a space to share and promote economic relations at the level of the policies that Cuba maintains with the Greater Caribbean and other regions of the world.” Likewise, Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, head of the Ministry for Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, highlighted that “it constitutes a showcase to strengthen integration and show the portfolio of opportunities from Eastern Cuba to this, its natural space.”

The ambassador of the Republic of Guyana, on behalf of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), Halim Majeed expressed that “solidarity and economic prosperity have always been promoted by Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, this Fair being an example of this.” .

The meeting each year is ratified as a center of regional integration, in addition to calling for increasing the linkage with the new economic actors that the Cuban economy requires so much for its development and growth.

During the Fair, which will run until the 29th, there will be multiple meetings between Chambers of Commerce, presentations of already consolidated products and services, and the launch of some new ones.

In the 19th edition, representatives from 28 countries, 12 provinces, and some 300 state-owned companies, MSMEs and numerous foreign companies – mainly from the Dominican Republic, other Caribbean and European nations such as Spain, Portugal and Switzerland – meet at the fairgrounds.

The panels include the one related to the Study of productive niches with emphasis on the eastern provinces. Presentation on Brazil’s work strategy towards the Caribbean, among others.

At the opening of Expo Caribe 2024, the commemorative postal cancellation took place, carried out by the Correos de Cuba Business Group. Once the ceremony was over, the personalities present left it inaugurated and toured the exhibition areas.

Present at the opening ceremony were the first secretary of the Party here, Beatriz Johnson Urrutia and Manuel Falcón Hernández, Governor, as well as Antonio Luis Carricarte Corona, president of the Chamber of Commerce of the
Republic of Cuba.

Also, representatives of the diplomatic corps from different countries, chambers of Commerce in the region and ministers gathered, who began their activities at the Santa Ifigenia heritage cemetery, where they paid tribute to the Founding Fathers, the national hero José Martí and the Leader of the Cuban Revolution Fidel Castro.
