ANDThe Tolima Art Museum It has held numerous exhibitions since its inauguration 20 years ago, standing out for the diversity of participating artists, coming from different regions and with varied trajectories. Its exhibitions include both international exhibitions and exhibitions by local and national artists. It should be noted that the museum was the venue for the 46th National Hall of Colombian Artists, Inaudito Magdalena, where Earth in transit.

This exhibition, along with others held in Neiva, Honda, Barrancabermeja, Mompox, Barranquilla and Bogotá, was part of the exhibition component of that edition of the show. In this context, the recent call aimed at contemporary artists in the region follows this line, expanding the spectrum of artistic experiences for visitors and strengthening links with the artistic field.

This initiative seeks for local artistic production to gain recognition at both the departmental and national and international levels.

The works are currently on display in the exhibition titled Between Symbols, Places and Affectionswith the participation of the following artists: Alejandra Roncancio, Diego Fernando Prieto, Camila Arévalo, Edward Camilo Oviedo, Jader Cruz Valderrama, Johan Sebastián Giraldo, Jonnathan Cataño, John Jairo Castro, Jonathann Hadher Lozada, Juan Carlos Jiménez, Juan David Gutiérrez, Juan Felipe Perdomo, Leslie Tatiana Toloza, Lorena Delgado, María Catalina Guevara, Mario Arroyabe, Michael Augusto Ortegón, Nicolás Beltrán, Nicolás Franco Perilla, Santiago Alejandro Vanegas, Valentina Ospina Moreno and Yurany Morales.

Art through objects

For example from this group, Edward Camilo Oviedo, with his video ‘The wind does not wait’and Jonathan Hadher Lozadawith his work in oil on canvas titled ‘3750 Millimeters Extension / Extinction’ were awarded the acquisition prize. These works will be integrated into the Collection of the Tolima Art Museum.

According to Jaime Cerón, this exhibition reflects a constant exploration of symbols related to the cultural construction of the country, presented through various materials and techniques.

There is also a common interest in the role that individuals play in their environment. Furthermore, an emotional bond with objects, contexts and people is manifested, which highlights the connection between intimate life and external events.

An unmissable sample

Between Symbols, Places and Affections, supported by the Government of Tolima, includes more than 30 works in formats such as video, installation, engraving, painting, drawing and sculpture. The exhibition will be open to the public until July 7, 2024, at the Tolima Art Museum, located at cra 7 # 5-93, Belén neighborhood, Ibagué. Visiting hours are Tuesday to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
