Camagüey maintains combat against drug trafficking and abuse

Camagüey, June 26.- The General Assembly of the United Nations decided to celebrate on June 26 the International Day to Combat Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, with the aim of demonstrating its determination in strengthening action and global cooperation to achieve the goal of a just society free of all vestiges that threaten the lives of human beings due to this scourge.

The agreement arose in its resolution 42/112, on December 7, 1987, and since that time Cuba has reinforced its actions to monitor its borders, with the help of customs workers, the bodies of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT) and the people. , and close all possibilities of entry into the country.

In Camagüey, a solid front has been established at the Ignacio Agramonte international air terminal that has prevented the access of drugs, despite the fact that the offenders appeal to the most varied formulas.

Last year, for example, a traveler of Dominican nationality living in Suriname hid about 40 cocaine capsules in his body cavity, expelled from the specialized services of the Manuel Ascunce Domenech Provincial Hospital.

After all the legal requirements were met, he was tried by the Popular Provincial Court, which, having verified the facts, imposed a penalty of 20 years of deprivation of liberty.

Two other events correspond to a Cuban couple (a woman and a man) also from Suriname. Both brought cocaine disguised in cans of beans, a ruse proven in crime laboratories, as also happened with a second Cuban woman who intended to introduce drugs in containers of tomato puree and condensed milk.

This year, only one shipment of cocaine has been recorded along the north coast and two marijuana plantations have been detected in the area of Camalote, bordering Las Tunas, and in the municipality of Florida.

An insurmountable front is that of the forces of the men and women integrated into the “Looking at the Sea” detachments, and the use of canine technique.

The MININT bodies confirm that vulnerable consumption points include, among others, the Vigía-Florat, Centro and Bellavista popular councils.

Drug trafficking and possession is a crime severely punished by the Penal Code and for which the maximum of zero tolerance is maintained. (Enrique Atienzar Rivero/Contributor) (Photo: Rodolfo Blanco Cue)
