Sidi Bravo speaks with Diario Regional Aysén about the low temperatures in the town this Monday.
Early this Monday, June 24, around 06:38, the town of Balmaceda woke up with a notable low temperature, marking a milestone within these figures.
According to MeteoChile, the thermometer at the Meteorological Station of the Balmaceda Aerodrome recorded a minimum temperature of -21.9 degrees, the lowest in the world. This does not take into account the temperature in Antarctica, where this Monday 24, for example, the Concordia Base recorded -71.7 degrees.
The regional director of the National Disaster Prevention and Response Service (Senapred), Sidi Bravo, in conversation with Diario Regional Aysén, said that this is not the first time that the town has experienced these extreme temperatures.
“Although it was a sudden change in temperatures, there have been other instances such as in 2002 and 1985 where 28 degrees below zero have been recorded, therefore, it is a condition that has historically existed in the town of Balmaceda,” he says. Bravo.
The regional director of Senapred pointed out that these low temperatures had not been recorded in recent years. “This is a product of the transition period between the boy and girl phenomenon and global warming. Therefore, we must be prepared at both the communal levels under these important variables,” concludes Sidi Bravo.
