Extension of non-commercial imports

Havana, June 27 (RHC) Cuba authorized today exceptionally and temporarily until September 30, 2024, the non-commercial importation, without limits on its value and exempt from the payment of customs tax on food, hygiene, medicines and supplies medical, via passengers as accompanied baggage.

According to the Official Gazette of the Republic, in its ordinary edition number 57, it is prudent to extend these benefits, established in previous regulations, until June 30, given that limitations on the supply of food and other products in the country persist.

Added to this is the intensification of the economic, financial and commercial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, as well as the impact of the measures adopted to confront the Covid-19 pandemic and the gradual recovery of the country, the resolution states.

The measure authorizes the importation of the aforementioned products up to the limit of five hundred dollars of the value or equivalent weight and up to 50 kilograms, in the value/weight ratio established by the General Customs of Cuba, and exempt from the payment of customs tax.

In addition, the increase in the customs value limit for non-commercial imports made by natural persons is maintained, through shipments from 200 to 500 US dollars.

In that case, the exemption from payment of tariffs for the first thirty US dollars of the value or its equivalent weight of three kilograms of the shipment and the application of the thirty percent tariff rate to any excess will continue.

According to the text, the extension of the deadline includes the non-commercial importation and exempt from payment of customs tax of food, hygiene, medicines and health supplies imported by natural persons, such as air, sea and postal shipments, up to 200 dollars Americans or the equivalent weight of up to 20 kilograms.

The document specifies that the benefits apply on condition that the items that make up part of the passenger’s luggage are presented to Cuban Customs in packages separate from the rest of the products and in the case of shipments, the content must include only this type of products.
